— :זי שרייבט אין דעם לבנה שיין
,מײן אינגל ניט פאַרגעס"
קום אין דעם לבנה־שײן
.ווי אַ נאַכט וואַנדלער, ווי אַ מת
איך וועל קושן אין לבנה־שײן
,דײן דורכזיכטיק לײב
איך טונק אין דעם לבנה שײן
".די ווערטער וואָס איך שרײב
אירע ליפּן אויף זײן אַסקעטישן
,דורכזיכטיק ווײסן לײב
,מיט אַ שמייכל אַ פאַררעטערישן
".רופט ער זי "מײן ווײב
:זי ענטפערט אים אין פיבער
,מײן נאַכט־וואַנדלער, מײן מת"
,איך וועל קושן דיך, מײן ליבער
".אַ גאַנצענעם מעת־לעת
די נאַכט איז באַלד פאַריבער
עס שטראָמט דער טאָג אַרײן
,איך וועל קושן דיך, מײן ליבער"
.בײ לבנה־שיין
,איך וועל האָבן דיך, מיין ליבער
אַ גאַנצענעם מעת־לעת
ווען ס'וועט דער טאָג פאַריבער
".פאַרשווינד ווי דורך אַ נס
,עס איז דער טאָג פאַריבער
.עס שטראָמט די נאַכט אַרײן
,זי מינטערט אים, "מײן ליבער
".עס איז לבנה־שײן
זי קושט זײן לײב אַקסעטישן
",ביסט דאָ שוין אַ מעת־לעת"
מיט אַ שמייכל אַ פאַררעטערישן

Zi shraybt in dem Levone Shayn: —
"Mayn Yingl nit farges,
Kum in dem Levone Shayn
Vi a Nakht Vandler, vi a Mes.
Ikh vel kushn in Levone Shayn
Dayn durkhzikhtik Leyb,
Ikh tunk in dem Levone Shayn
Di Verter vos ikh shrayb."
Ire Lipn oyf zayn asketishn
Durkhzikhtik vaysn Layb,
Mit a Shmeykhl a farreterishn,
Ruft er zi "mayn Vayb."
Zi entfert im in Fiber:
"Mayn Nakht Vandler, mayn Mes,
Ikh vel kushn dikh, mayn Liber,
A gantsenem Mes-Les."
Di Nakht iz bald fariber
Es shtromt der Tog arayn
"Ikh vel kushn dikh, mayn Liber,
Baym Levone Shayn.
Ikh vel hobn dikh, mayn Liber,
A gantsenem Mes-Les
Ven s'vet der Tog fariber
Farshvind vi durkh a Nes."
Es iz der Tog fariber,
Es shtromt di Nakht arayn.
Zi mintert im, "mayn Liber,
Es iz Levone Shayn."
Zi kusht zayn Layb asketishn
"Bist do shoyn a Mes-Les,"
Mit a Shmeykhl a farreterishn
Ligt far ir a Mes.
Moonlight
(Ballad)
She writes in the moonlight: —
"My boy don't forget,
come in the moonlight
like a night wanderer, like a corpse.
I will kiss in the moonlight
your translucent body,
I dip in the moonlight
the words that I write."
Her lips on his shoulders
translucent white body,
with a twisted smile,
he calls her "my wife."
she answers him in fever:
"my night wanderer, my corpse,
I will kiss you, my dear,
a whole day through."
The night soon passes
as day streams in
"I will kiss you, my dear,
in the moonlight.
I will have you, my dear,
a whole day through
when the day passes
vanishing as if by miracle."
The day has passed,
the night streams in.
she encourages him, "my dear,
it is moonlight."
she kisses his shoulders
"you're here for the whole day,"
with a twisted smile
lies before her a corpse.
