Page 323. 'Zun oyfshtayg' conclusion and 'Ful mit vartung' (Full of Waiting). The sower ties 'korb mit zriye' (basket with seeds) to his belt; the earth waits for seeds as it waited for the plough, 'durkhgezunikte' (soaked through with sun). 'Ful mit vartung' — a cozy poem of hospitality. 'Aza heymishdik land' (such a homey land) carries 'hamer un serp' (hammer and sickle) with 'fonen' (flags) and 'ful geladene kerb' (fully loaded baskets). Sweet smells of 'gehonigtem mon' (honeyed poppy) and 'gebrotene nis' (roasted nuts). A 'korbn' (sacrifice/offering) comes to the table: nuts, poppyseeds, wine in 'kyleyhkes' (little goblets). 'Oyf sovetisher erd' (on Soviet earth), the night is 'undzer tsishiker ya' (our eager yes) — affirmation of the Soviet project. A 'zongezotlter ferd' (song-saddled horse) rides through night 'tsum toyer fun tog' (to the gate of day). The gate of day waits 'vi di gas, vi der rog' (like the street, like the corner) 'oyf derfreytn gezang' (for joyful song).

English Translation

So he ties to his wide belt

a basket with seeds, and his hand begins to sow: —

as waited for the plough — also for seeds they wait,

soaked through with sun, in row with all the rows.

Full of Waiting

Full of waiting is my door,

come in, come in,

we will both until morning

be good guests here.

Such a homey land

carries, with hammer and sickle

and with flags, on hand

fully loaded baskets.

And from basket and from flag

wafts a sweet smell

of honeyed poppy

and roasted nuts.

To the little room's table

a sacrifice carries itself in: —

nuts and poppyseeds fresh,

and in little goblets — wine.

Such a night right here

on Soviet earth —

our eager yes —

a song-saddled horse.

On the saddle a flame,

and — chase upon chase.

And through night and until morning

and to the gate of day.

And the gate of day

waits already long, — oh how long —

like the street, like the corner,

for joyful song.
