Page 125. 'There Where I Am Not Yet' conclusion: Meanwhile time passes, the sweetness of days. The speaker's eye is wide open, seeing the farthest path; his ear strained, hearing the quietest call. There, where he is not yet, his star rises. Every rising star brings the hour closer. Long already they wait for him there. 'Under the Steps of My Feet' (Unter di Trit fun Mayne Fis): A visionary poem. Under his steps, in the deep depths of the earth, the speaker hears the unceasing rustle-song of his life 'stream-wise, vein-wise' — the life-force flowing like blood through the earth. The thick layer of earth becomes transparent as polished glass, revealing colors of forty-nine hues. Like one looking into a stream and seeing his life wave with his shadow-reflection, he stands penetrated into the earth. He sees: labyrinths ignited in fires seen only in dreams; through them, stream-wise, vein-wise, the life seen only in dreams.

And meanwhile time passes,
and the sweetness of my days:
my eye is opened wide —
I see the farthest path.
My ear is strained,
I hear the quietest call:
there, where I am not yet,
meanwhile my star rises.
Every star that rises
will bring the hour closer.
Long already they wait for me
there, where I am not yet.
Under the Steps of My Feet
Under the steps of my feet,
in the deep depths of the earth,
I hear the unceasing rustle-song of my life
stream-wise — vein-wise.
The thick layer of earth under my feet
sometimes becomes transparent as polished glass
and before my eyes flash
colors of seven times seven hues.
Like one who looks into a stream
and sees his life waving
together with his shadowy reflection —
so I stand penetrated with both eyes
into the thick layer of earth under my feet.
And I see:
labyrinths ignited
in fires seen only in dreams:
and over them and through them
stream-wise — vein-wise,
the life seen only in dreams.
