perceives its beat anymore; —
at the feet of death and bones
on watch sits half a day.
At the head sleeps the pillow,
on the ceiling sleeps the rabbit,
in the corner sleeps the little table,
on the table sleeps the glass.
On the High Mountain
On the high mountain, on the evening-mountain
tigers fight with lions;
glowing nails in dark neck,
and manes in flames rise.
Striped lament, bared tongue.
strangle and strangling, choking. —
convulsion and convulsing, a sink and a leap,
gurgle and gargle tearing apart.
Far across all mountains around
the sound carries itself apart:
— world, be ready, be ready, I come,
I — your end: collapse.
— Everything is infected with war,
with murder-lust and destruction —
man and beast, worm and fly,
also sun, also moon and stars.
World is ready. to the high mountain
they look up —
there happens the last strangling,
last act of convulsion.
On the high mountain the sun sets,
darkness lays itself thicker;
tigers with lions in convulsion
lie torn to pieces.
